A little better but still...

Slightly better than your "Amazed sonata" - the big difference here is that in the last one, you used 16th notes on their own and in this one it appears that you tried to use chords.

This is not a great song but it's better than the last.

There is still very little, if any, structure here and it still has a randomly generated feel to it.

I'm hoping that you didn't just use a software setting to "assign chords" to your notes - you probably did, but I'll give you the benefit of doubt and therefore I'm voting 2/5.

The breakdown of the scores for this is pretty much the same for the last one.

You really could do so much better - I'm advising you to try a little harder and work on your music a lot more before uploading it here - don't just submit any old thing to the AP.

DP00 responds:

uh ok ? but i am using a piano simulator and i can't really do better than that with it seriously, because when i try to make a slow song it goes more slow than it's supposed to... and i need to get a new program, no more submissions from me until i got a new program! well thankx for this review it's constructive!

I'm so disappointed...

OK - I'll break down the scores that I assigned:

Originality - 6
I've never heard this exact arrangement of 16th notes before so I decided to at least give you something.

Diversity - 3
As far as I could tell, we're looking at a single instrument and a relentless mashing of pseudo random keys all quantized to 16th notes. No variation other than the actual notes = very little diversity = very low score. :(

Clarity - 6
Yes, for what it was it was clear enough - not great - but not crap quality either.

Effort - 2
OK - I'm thinking that you just really wanted submit something, anything, to the AP and rushed this one out the door without giving it much, if any, thought. I'm sorry to have to say this but if you worked really hard on this piece and are very proud of it then you might want to reconsider your passion for music. The most effort that I could perceive was you asking for conversion utilities in the forums.

Overall - 3
Again, not trying to be mean - I'm just being honest. This track barely qualifies as an experiment used to learn your software export settings. This is a terrible track no matter how you slice it. I'm not going to spare your feelings and tell you it has potential or anything like that because frankly, I don't think that it does. I've heard much better compositions that were randomly generated by software with no human intervention at all.

Sorry pal but I tried and tried and I just can't give this a higher score. I have to vote 1 on this. I absolutely cannot comfortably vote any higher than that on this track. Put some effort into your next tracks, learn a little, try a few new things like structure, melody and accompaniment, etc. and you might deserve higher scores in the future but this just isn't worth it in it's current state.

DP00 responds:

Omfg! it's the first time i see someone that does like a track that does say '' WHAT THE FUCK DUDE IT'S PIECE OF CRAP!!!'' or something like this! your review is constructive and i gotta tell you 2 things!

1. My program really sucks there is only one instrument... guess whom it is ... Ya! Piano XD!

2. Your'e right, i really wanted to submit to audio portal, i was like, i'll send this one and i'll won't have to wait forever until it gets on AP after! And i agree this track isn't really good... but i wrote it was my first, as mean, that i REALLY wanted to submit!

Well to conclude, no more submissions from me until i got a REALLY BETTER program!

I like your review it's constructive!

Very cool stuff

Definitely a worthwhile experiment. I particularly liked the intentional damage inflicted on the rythm - unexpected pauses and glitchy skips were appropriately used to reinforce the overall manic feel of the track.

Reminded me a bit of the older acid from back in the day - I think it was the stabs combined with the droning square-ish bassline that did that. They gave it a sort of L.A. Style feel.

It's always nice to see some experimentation - unfortunately it seems that so many people who claim to have an open mind are unwilling or afraid to try new things and even fewer seem to really appreciate it.

You can't be a maverick without blazing a few trails of your own, right?

I think that this could be stretched into a longer piece without too many difficulties.

Damn fine job you did though - especially considering your authoring environment!

Nice job overall and you'll get my 5 -

I'll send a PM with some more info and a request.

WinTang responds:

I assume by authoring environment, you mean the outdatedness that is Impulse Tracker :)
I'm just addicted to that program. It's so much fun, after 10 years I still discover new things to toy with. Crappy samples played an octave or two below audible tonality make great percussion, etc.

Was very curious what you'd think of this and I'm glad you noticed basically everything I wanted noticed in this.

PM received and answered. Thanks a lot!!

Perfect.

Great chunk of staccato bits clips an' tidbits.

I really liked this one - loved the way that everything felt a little interrupted in the first half or so.

Has a bit of a musique concrète feel to it (mostly due to the percussive elements) and you did a great job of opening everything up towards the latter half.

Has theatrical score written all over it -

Couldn't find fault if I wanted to.

You get a 5 from me on this. Too bad that the great army of total fucking losers will come along and blast it off the charts in a matter of days...

Damn fine work here -

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

ler,
me and splagawaga started this with the intention of keeping it entirely live sample based but then he went home with his mic, and as i have left my sm58 in a pub after a gig:( it took a different path.
enjoyed it tho, really had a problem making music for ages so hopefully this will fix that...
;ped

Very Ambienty :)

Does exactly what it says on the tin!

Not a bad piece - the volume seems just a bit low though, and the chime punches through a lot more than it probably should but overall it's a very good ambient track. I could see a track like this used as part of the BGM&E in either video or gaming.

You get a 5 from me.

TheAmateurAnimator responds:

Thanks for the 5! Maybe I'll raise the volume a bit and resubmit it.

Ahhh, the chill factor is rising...

Collabs are always so hard to finish aren't they?

Very chilled out piece - Honestly I don't think that it worked quite as well as "Aquarium Speculations" but it's a really nice track just the same.

Not wanting to be an ass but I would suggest that you revisit this piece - cut the tempo of the main instruments down to about.. oh... 60 or so (it's a nice number for what I'm thinking)- then after letting everything roll around a bit bash in the percussion at 180. Get just a little more aggressive with the drums - chop 'em up a bit and ka-pow, nice new remix.

Damn nice the way it is though. You guys did a nice job on it.

5/5

lol review confusing. Thanks for the reviews

I'm giving you all 9's and a 5 because I really gotta give ya the benefit of the doubt on this one. Techno really isn't my thing so I usually have a hard time rating it. It sounded good - don't get me wrong or anything it's just that I don't listen to a lot of Techno - not a huge fan of it really - it's usually just a little too happy for my tastes - I prefer the darker side of electronica.

Good comp though - decent energy to it and it has enough sparkle and appeal to it.

Nice job

SineRider responds:

I made this as a joke hehe

but people seemed to like it

Really nice work

Sounds like a heavily MHIAB influenced track

Either that or your style is so similar to KB's that it just sounds that way.

The instruments are nice and laid back and the percussion adds just enough energy to make this a damn nice chunk of ear-candy.

The breaks are great - nice job applying eq to the drums as well.

Very good work on this - 5/5!

SineRider responds:

A bit inspired by KB and others.

Thanks for the review

Nice track

Really had that "don't shake the baby too hard, I'm trying to get the little bastard to shut the hell up" feel to it. :D

Not extremely diverse but it didn't really need to be - in fact, I think that it would have lost something if you had added more to it.

Nice job on it - keep it up.

itsameyayo responds:

Oh my gosh, "don't shake the baby too hard, I'm trying to get the little #$*& to shut the hell up," fell, the second best description I've had for a song here, thanks man! I'm ready for today now ; D

-ImperfectDisciple-

I do all of the above. I mean it. I can back it up too.
