Great game!

This was a fantastic game - it was very well done and I really have no complaints at all.

I have a few suggestions to consider for the next version though:

Map the little DJ's arm movements to the x/y of the mouse so that in addition to the tables the character will seem more in time with the music as well. - Would be cool.

A nice little feature might be to cause a 'skip' if you miss a bar - Depending on how you're playing the sound - if you're using script, you could grab the .position and then use that value plus or minus a random bit on a .start combined with a scratch sound to cause this effect. Maybe... I know this could cause problems with the timing (again - depending on how you've set it up) but hey - they're just suggestions right? :)

Consider adding a virtual crowd - complete with cheers for completing a particularly difficult section or boos if you do horribly.

Excellent job

Very unique gameplay - Quite different from most others.

Once you get the hang of the controls it's really a very fun game. You did a great job on this.

I could definitely see someone like PopCap picking this up.

Again - excellent job.

Nice scripting

You did a great job with the engine - My guess is that you were inspired by Gumboy - Crazy Adventures but if I'm wrong and you've never played that game then you should definitely check it out. Although this wasn't a very original game, the execution was done very well. Again, great job on the programming you did well with the hit detection and the physics. The graphics could be a little prettier but that's something that you can easily take care of in a later version if you decide to pursue it. You're quite talented!

Almost as good as the original

Not a bad game - but honestly, I liked the first one much better. The new features are great, don't get me wrong, but after playing the first one, this seems a bit clunky.

There seem to be a few bugs here and there as well
- sometimes enemies stop moving and sit there just waiting to be killed
- mines stay on screen for what seems like a very very long time
- Several times, the life meter did not change, I was killed 4 or 5 times in a row and the remaining lives counter didn't change at all.

I have the latest player installed so I don't think it's due to a version conflict. I hope that helps you a little.

All in all a great game but it didn't quite meet my expectations.

Good job though! You rock.

I'm not too sure what you mean by "clunky". Its interesting that you think the first one was better. In my opinion this one is 2 or 3 times as good. It has more features, bugs have been removed, it has a bigger playing area, it runs faster, you can even save your best score. I'm not sure what there is that could be worse than the original.

As for the bugs..

The first one is because you are picking up a stop time powerup. Its not a bug, its supposed to happen.

Mines staying for a while could also be due to the same thing.

The meter not changing could be because you are picking up extra lives as you get killed. Ive played the game a lot and haven’t noticed the health not changing, so i think it must just be that.

Thanks a lot for your review anyway :) its always good to get peoples thoughts and opinions. Much appreciated.

:)

Thanks for using my music in this submission - I'm honored!

8 for humor

it was THAT funny that you bothered to submit this.

This wasn't so much a tutorial as it was a very VERY basic skimming over of a few of Flash's most simple functions.

BTW - your ActionScript really needs work - I think YOU might need to read a few more tutorials before you start making your own.

Not bad.. not great either...

Really basic - not much to it.

"Certified techniques" huh? - what book did you read that in?

I spent quite some time in the Marine Corps and the techniques taught there are slightly different from the "punch to solar plexus" or "Hammer to face" bits that you've described... but I digress...

Content was so-so - a little lacking - decent layout though - a few minor glitches in the placement of menu items and such and the background music was clear enough...

So I say again, not bad .... but not great ... Should get through the portal though - I really don't think it would be blammed...

Good Luck!

Not a bad try...

Not a great game but you're going in a good direction. There are plenty of bugs with this release - the erratic movement of the balls made the whole thing look a little amateurish - plus as the last reviewer mentioned - the bad balls don't ener quite make it to the edge so by placing your cursor dot very close to the edge of the circle and leaving it there - you'll never be hit...

Not an original idea - there have been a hundred "keep away from" games created and alot of them are much better but either way you are showing a little promise.

At LEAST you are experimenting with actionScript which is WAY MORE than what alot of people are doing...

If you can come up with smoother graphics and motions (tough I know!) and maybe some sort of theme or hook that hasn't been done before, then I think you'll have a winner.

Good luck - DON'T give up!

DEFINE HIT AREAS!!!!

At the VERY least you must ALWAYS define a hit area for buttons...

NEVER use only text to create the buttons as this results in the button using only the characters as the hit area - and when you're cursor is over the spaces between , in and around the letters the button isn't active...

This is a very simple thing to do - in fact even better - don't use the text as the button at all... Create a new button that you can re-use a thousand times over top of the static text...

zzZZZzzzz....zzzzZZZZZzzzz...

Not great... NG doesn't currently have the rating systems needed for me to give you your scores so I'm making my own...

Using these scales - you scored pretty well!

I do all of the above. I mean it. I can back it up too.
