*YAWN*

There's no reason that this should pass portal judgement.

...aside from clock nepotism that is...

The-Shadow-1 responds:

PSSssssTTtttt buddy.....IT PASSED JUDGEMENT! So here have a cigar buddy it's a BOY!

As much as I hate clocks....

I really don't like Clock movies but it wasn't so bad as to be blammed...

Honestly, I voted '2' and I get ...

"You're the saviour! You are one of a number of people who have helped keep this entry in the Portal!"

I almost feel a little dirty now...

Not bad animation really - but please consider something other than cc stuff - from what I've seen you should be able to get your stuff through the portal without the cc votes.

HydraulicCat responds:

Watch, The SpaceShip Battle
And Hidraolic Madness
Those movies arent Clocks

Nice job...

You did a really good job - I think you're off to a good start but I'd reconsider using this piece to get work... This isn't bad at all but it's also not extraordinary. (There's also the PC crap to consider - which is VERY real in the corporate world where nobody wants to upset anyone for fear of losing business) I'm assuming that you modelled, rigged textured and animated everything yourself. That's great - it shows that you have a well rounded set of skills - This may be good enough to land a small job or two - and If you're planning on a series of smaller clients who will want you to handle all production yourself, then you should be alright - but larger clients with bigger jobs usually employ a team of people in which case you should hone one particular skill or another until you are the very best at it out of everyone else. I know people who can model like you wouldn't believe but leave the texturing and rigging for others - and I also know people who may not be able to model very well but can rig up a character breathing an amazing amount of life into a scene -

Either way - it's great work so far - Sorry if I'm coming off sounding negative - I'm not meaning to - I really hope you make it! Don't get discouraged - any media work is a super tough and very competitive business (trust me I know) and you'll hear a thousand "No"'s but eventually you'll get your foot in the door and it'll all be worth it!

Hoping to see more from you!

pyropymp responds:

You are absolutely right, and this is what my profs would've said too. I modelled, textured, rigged, lit everything myself because I hated the generic assignment characters/scenes they gave me... that's why :P I will eventually focus just solely on animation.

Nice job...

I'm assuming that you are turning this in to a school for credit? - in that case then I doubt file size is much of a consideration but for submission here well... another story... You mentioned that you had to remove a scene to get the size down... That's too bad considering that I'm wagering MOST of the size was in the audio - You could've probably compressed the audio more without losing much quality.. the graphics are a different thing altogether - you CAN compress those additionally but you need a third party tool like 'Optimaze' to do it - works really well and will generally crunch your vectors down by about 40 - 50 % - that combined with sacrificing a wee bit on the audio and pushing the compression down to maybe 32 or 48k and this submission might have been under 3MB or even 2.5 ...

Enough about compression though - You did a really good job - I can tell that you worked hard on it and you deserve to get your submission through the portal.

Keep it up!

weaselman responds:

My teacher helped me reduce the size a bit, so i will have the other scene in tomorow or something. I had to sacrifice some audio though.

Really nice job...

You could greatly decrease the size by recreating this in Flash as vector based animation. What did you use to create this originally? - Using vectors instead of importing an avi would cut the size down to about 150k plus whatever sounds you use.. Sound quality is lacking but again - by streaming the sounds from within flash as opposed to importing an animation you would have much more control over the quality.

Nice animation though - decent walk cycle on the rabbit - good characters and a potentially funny (if not outright revolting) story line - I imagine the "bedroom scene" would rate the highest on the poor-taste-O-meter, but would still be worth a few laughs.

Overall nice job - beats the HELL outta most crappy stick and clock submissions I've seen lately...

Keep it up!

gr8ball responds:

I used Adobe After Effects 6.5 to make it. Vectorizing the whole thing would take forever. The music sucks, I know... watch it with the sound off :-P Thanks for your input!

Very nice work.

Wery well put together - nicely illustrated and animated - and definitely original.

The sound was good - the story itself was intriguing and the animation made it easy to watch. Very dark - emotionally - which is good - the fact that you provoked any thought or emotion at all is impressive given the usual stick fights and numa dances that flood the portal...

If this was your first work then I would love to see additional works if you decide to continue authoring in flash.

Great job!

dancingmind responds:

yes this was my first attempt with flash. I started working on it in November 2004. Flash is a very difficult program to pick up and learn so it took time to get to this stage.

I wanted to create something that you guys would like and i am glad it was worth the time investment for you.

Not terrible... not spectacular...

OK, fair and honest review...

The sound could be improved - you went from way too loud to suddenly cutting to silence or very near it... this felt way too trite... I think that a more subtle soundtrack that built up slowly would have been more effective in increasing tension. As it is it felt like watching one of those cheesy 50's B-movie horror flicks... The graphics weren't bad but there really wasn't much to them - never showing the character at all - could go either way with this. I understand using the 'point of view' for dramatic effect but I also felt like the only reason you didn't show a character was that you couldn't draw a decent one... Not saying that you can't just saying it felt that way... Overall though it was a decent effort and the twist at the end (although nothing to piss oneself over) was a little humorous...

Work on the sound man! I think that if this were scored better (music core not point score), you'd get higher ratings.

Decent job - keep it up as if nothing else it was in fact original...

SuperDuck-Spanjj responds:

Thanx, most people are commenting on the music so i'll definitely look into it. i could of drawn the character but it would of taken me a while and i dont think he was all that necessary, thanx for the review tho!

They do it... why can't you... right?

I've seen so many political submissions here and most of them are crap... The left is constantly submitting "Bush sucks" "No war" crap and usually they have no real skill...

And now you've done the same thing... The message behind it is fine - I know - I was an active duty Marine from 90 - 96 so don't think for a minute that I'm bashing the country or the message - what I AM bashing is the lack of effort put into this...

Sorry to say it but the submission sucks... Fading a few pictures in and out along with a 100MB sound file is always going to suck regardless of the subject matter.

If you want to improve this, work on your transistions - do something a little more than tweening the alpha - experiment a little with masking - you can get really nice effects by using a picture that's larger than the mask and using a motion tween on the pic - you can also tween the mask as well - by stacking layers up like that, you can get a very animated or even cinematic feel from still photos. Keep trying.

Bravoleader responds:

good tips. i'll keep em in mind.
thanks boss

I dunno...

I'll give you benefit of doubt but this REALLY looks alot like the "Whatever Movie Here" in so many seconds with bunnies to me...

I don't know if you've seen that series but it's been around for ages and someone may think you stole the idea...

Nice work though - well done - but look into the bunnies thing before you make too many more...

That is unless you happen to be someone who was also involved with that series as well...

Good flash work...

DeathRayGraphics responds:

A lot of people seem not to have read my "author's comments." This IS a rip off of the 30 Second Bunny Theatre, aka, a spoof!

It is also meant to be one of a kind, i.e., there will not be another like it. I just thought a puppet fighting a shrimp cocktail was funny, is all.

You get all zeros for not being original...

How many times did you watch the original "cows with guns" before you decided to copy it?

Ever hear of intellectual property?

This is copyright infringement.
You need to review the submission agreement...

Gerkinman responds:

Neither me nor Jim have seen the previous version of the film clip to this song. So the answer is 0 times.

I do all of the above. I mean it. I can back it up too.
